Raku Tatami High Rise Bed

The Raku Tatami Platform Bed stands out as an environmentally friendly choice, surpassing many other furniture products available today. Crafted from solid Parawood, also known as Rubberwood, this bed is free from particle board or MDF, minimizing its environmental impact. Furthermore, Parawood is sustainably sourced from plantations, ensuring responsible harvesting practices when the Rubberwood has reached the end of its productive sap-producing life.

To preserve the integrity of the wood and prevent cracking or warping, the Raku bed features solid Parawood finger joints and a protective inert lacquer finish. While the finger joints add a distinct aesthetic to lighter natural and honey oak finishes, they blend into a more uniform appearance with the dark walnut finish.

Assembling the Raku bed is effortless due to its clever slot-locking system, which securely joins the corners together. The minimal use of hardware contributes to the bed's simplicity, sturdiness, and ease of assembly and disassembly. For added strength and stability, the center support rail(s) utilize steel bolts to fasten the middle legs and the rails of the bed frame. This provides a robust foundation for the solid wood slats, accommodating both mattresses and Tatami mats.

Maximize the eco-friendly qualities of the Raku bed by incorporating Tatami mats, which can replace traditional box springs (mats sold separately). Western-style mattresses, ranging from 7 to 18 inches in thickness, can be placed directly on the slat deck of the Raku bed. However, for thinner and more flexible Eastern-style Shiki mats and futons, a solid surface is required to prevent sinking between the slats. Tatami mats are the ideal solution, perfectly fitting the Raku frame to create a level surface for these types of bedding.
